As a key player in a global network, they specialise in the design and implementation of custom-built heating equipment. Jarlam was engaged to fabricate the main wash drum for a bespoke bullet washing system.

The Challenge

  • Internal flights could not be manufactured as a single piece, requiring a complex and highly precise assembly process.
  • Fabricating with exotic 2205 stainless steel proved difficult as it behaves very differently to standard 304 or 316.
  • Maintaining a precise diameter while welding multiple flight segments together to ensure they fit neatly within the drum.
  • Accurately notching each flight intersection to house four internal stability angles along the entire length of the drum.

The Solution

  • Our team designed and fabricated a custom jig to ensure every internal flight was assembled with absolute accuracy.
  • Utilised specialised stainless steel fabrication expertise to effectively manage the unique welding and handling requirements of 2205 steel.
  • Expertly welded the flights together in-house to achieve the exact diameter required to fit perfectly into the drum.
  • Opted to notch the flights around one-piece internal angles, providing much better structural stability and a superior finish.
