Jarlam was engaged by a global provider of collection, sorting and grading technologies supporting the circular economy and food processing industries to improve access around existing machinery and conveyors at its Brisbane facility.

The project required safe, hygienic access for maintenance and cleaning within the constraints of the existing equipment layout.

Challenge

  • Existing machinery and conveyors restricted access, making maintenance and cleaning difficult.
  • Limited space around the equipment made a standard access platform unsuitable.
  • The interstate location presented logistical challenges, with limited access to suitable local fabrication and supply services.
  • The platform’s design needed to account for transport dimensions, handling requirements and delivery to the interstate site.
  • Food-processing hygiene requirements demanded a platform that could be effectively cleaned and easily maintained.

Our Solution

  • Jarlam designed and fabricated a custom food-grade access platform to accommodate the existing machinery and conveyor layout, ensuring structural strength and stability.
  • Used stainless-steel construction and checker plate flooring to provide a durable working surface suited to the food-processing environment.
  • Incorporated stainless-steel stairs and handrails to provide safe access for maintenance and cleaning.
  • Fabricated the platform at Jarlam’s Melbourne workshop in sections that could be disassembled for efficient interstate transport.
  • Jarlam’s installation team travelled to Brisbane to reassemble and install the platform on site.

Result

  • Established safe, reliable access to elevated sections of existing machinery and conveyors.
  • Improved access for routine maintenance, inspection and cleaning, supporting more efficient servicing of equipment.
  • Delivered a durable, hygienic stainless-steel platform suited to the demands of the food-processing environment.
  • Maximised the use of limited space with a custom platform tailored to the existing equipment layout.
