Jarlam was awarded a complex turnkey equipment on-site installation project for a leading confectionery manufacturer, bringing together project design, engineering, specialist equipment and experienced machinery installers to install large stainless steel ageing tanks within a facility. However, significant access restrictions required careful planning and a coordinated installation approach.

The Challenge

  • Firstly, severely restricted entry clearances created significant logistical challenges when transferring the large stainless-steel ageing tanks into the existing facility.
  • Furthermore, tight internal clearances left minimal room for machinery installation, tank handling, manoeuvring and final positioning.
  • As a result, restricted access and limited internal space prevented conventional crane positioning, making the lifting and installation process more complex.
  • In addition, the size and weight of the tanks presented a significant risk of damage to existing floors and surrounding infrastructure during installation.
  • Finally, a narrow installation window and demanding completion deadline required precise coordination of equipment deliveries, machinery handling and installation activities.

Our Solution

  • Jarlam’s engineers designed a purpose-built lifting skid to support the controlled lifting, handling and maneuvering of the ageing tanks within the restricted installation area.
  • Jarlam planned and coordinated the external repositioning of machinery to establish the access required for equipment installation within the existing facility.
  • A dedicated floor protection system enabled controlled movement of the tanks at ground level while safeguarding existing surfaces throughout the machinery installation.
  • A bespoke access platform was designed, engineered and fabricated to suit the tank configuration, surrounding equipment and restricted facility layout.
  • Jarlam’s experienced machinery installers executed a carefully sequenced equipment installation, precisely coordinating tank positioning and platform assembly within tight working clearances.
  • Detailed scheduling and coordination of specialist labour, lifting equipment and machinery installation activities enabled completion within the limited installation window and demanding project timeframe.

The Result

  • Delivered a turnkey equipment installation with one contractor responsible for design, engineering, fabrication and machinery installation.
  • Increased the facility’s ageing capacity through the successful installation of additional stainless steel ageing tanks.
  • Accommodated the tanks and access platform within the existing ageing room footprint, maximising use of available space.
  • Completed the equipment installation within the allocated installation window and agreed project timeframe.
  • Improved access to the top of the ageing tanks with a purpose-built stainless-steel platform for ongoing operations and maintenance.
